Who this app is for
Hear Me AAC is a picture-based communication app (AAC) for children and adults who are non-verbal or have limited speech. It is designed to be set up by parents, carers, teachers and speech and language therapists.
What we do not do
- No accounts or sign-in.
- No advertising and no advertising IDs.
- No analytics, tracking or third-party data collection tools.
- No selling or sharing of any information.
Information stored on your device
The following is saved only on the device you are using. It is never sent to us or anyone else:
- Your tiles, categories and settings.
- Photos you add to tiles (resized and kept on the device).
- Voice recordings you make for tiles (kept on the device).
- Sign videos you film for tiles (kept on the device).
- A count of how often each word is tapped, shown only in grown-up settings to help with therapy.
You can delete all of this at any time with Settings → Reset everything, or by deleting the app. Backups are only created when you choose Save backup, and the file goes wherever you decide to save it.
Camera, photos and microphone
The app asks for permission to use the camera, photo library or microphone only when a grown-up chooses to add a photo, record a voice or film a sign for a tile. These are used only to create that tile and stay on the device.
Speech
The built-in voice ("Olivia") is made of recordings that come with the app. Other words are spoken by your device's own text-to-speech. Nothing you tap is sent over the internet to be spoken.
Website hosting
The web version is hosted by Netlify. Like any web host, Netlify may keep standard technical logs (such as IP addresses) for security and reliability. We do not use these logs to identify anyone.
Children
We do not knowingly collect any personal information from children or anyone else. The app is built to meet the expectations of the UK Age Appropriate Design Code, the US Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), Apple's Kids Category rules and Google Play's Families Policy.
